Having Fun – Getting Better! - was the motivational slogan of “Coach B.J. Pratt” at the 1st Annual BJ Pratt Basketball Camp, held at the Factory of Champions (8227 Broadway) last summer. The camp aims to use basketball as a tool to teach valuable life lessons to boys and girls, ages 8 to 16 in the Greater Bexar Area.
The children were wowed by special guest speakers including NBA star and former San Antonio Spur Devin Brown, Tai Dillard, formerly of the WNBA’s San Antonio Silver Stars, and from the Harlem Globetrotters, George Gervin Jr., son of legendary Spurs shooting guard the “Iceman”, George Gervin.
Like his guests, BJ has played at every level of basketball competition. His experience ranges from Texas High School Basketball, International play, and NBA Summer Leagues where he garnered numerous awards and recognition at every step along the way. Some accomplishments include:
2004-2005 Playoff MVP of Spanish League
1999 Honorable Mention McDonald’s All-American
1999 San Antonio Prep Player of the Year
An additional point of pride and success for the camp was the demonstration of world-class corporate citizenship, Tesoro Corporation, a leading independent refiner and marketer of petroleum products, generously agreed to sponsor the youth of Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of South Texas organization. When BBBS voiced the need for children in their program to have access to more summer activities, Tesoro took the lead. This partnership was instrumental in allowing 24 boys and girls that typically would not have the opportunity, to take part in the week long, fun filled summer camp.
This summer, Tesoro Corporation has again stepped to the plate and is pledging to sponsor the youth of Big Brothers Big Sister. Encouraged by Tesoro’s gesture, the B.J. Pratt Basketball Camp is ready to touch more lives of the youth in San Antonio and surrounding areas; 2008 is the year of expansion for the impact the camp will have on our city. So we want to thank you for your assistance in creating a new summer camp experience to well deserving youth, who await the chance to show their “game”, and pick up valuable life lessons at the 2nd Annual B.J. Pratt Basketball Camp
