Lin Great Speaker David Orr's lecture at St. Mary's University has been scheduled to coincide with and support International Education Week and its program "We Have Only One Earth: An Environmental Challenge." Since 1990, St. Mary's University has offered the Lin Great Speakers Series to the public as a community service. The series is made possible by an endowment established in the memory of Shu Chi Lin by his widow, Mrs. Chang Le-Chiao, and his son, Vincent Lin, Ph.D., an alumnus and current member of the Board of Trustees at St. Mary's University.
David Orr is the Paul Sears Distinguished Professor of Environmental Studies and Politics at Oberlin College and a James Marsh Professor at the University of Vermont. His career as a scholar, teacher, writer, speaker and entrepreneur spans fields as diverse as environment and politics, environmental education, campus greening, green building, ecological design, and climate change. He is best known for his pioneering work on environmental literacy in higher education and his recent work in ecological design. He raised funds for and spearheaded the effort to design and build an Environmental Studies Center at Oberlin College, a building described by the New York Times as "the most remarkable" of a new generation of college buildings and by the U.S. Department of Energy as one of the 30 "milestone" buildings of the 20th century.Event Listing at St. Mary's University
