Opening November 21, 2008, "The Flat Earth Plays" will showcase six 10-minute plays by San Antonio writers. It's an evening of original drama and comedy that explores the edge of lifeā¦and beyond.
The plays include "Shattered Past and Broken Glass" by Michael Burger, "The Marriage of Heaven and Hell" by Rebecca Coffey, "In My Hands the Stars, the Stars" by Lupe Flores, "A Win Win Situation" by Melissa Marlowe, and "Ring Rust" and "Silent Night," both by Scott McDowell.
John Poole, director of the Overtime Theater, writes:
"'The Flat Earth Plays' are six short stage stories with almost nothing in common, except that each piece explores scenes from lives on the edge; lives about to change forever and irrevocably. There was no audition or entry process for the plays chosen. All the authors are friends or Agents of the Overtime Theater, whose work has been seen before on stages across the city. Over the past months, small scripts kept coming across our plates that we loved, but had no place for. So, we made a place. The Flat Earth.
"We have chosen not to call them 'local' plays or 'amateur,' for both presume too little. They are but a glimmer of the talent we have seen in these authors, and we hope to encourage them to write more and often. And we hope they keep writing roles for us!"
