Seven seniors at South San Antonio High School each received $1,000 scholarships, courtesy of local attorney Richard Reyna.

The scholarship presentations were made in the South San High School Auditorium before family, friends and school district administrators.

Richard Reyna and his wife, Rachel, have been awarding scholarships to high school seniors the past three years.

Reyna is a 1983 graduate of South San Antonio High School.

The scholarship recipients are: Cecilio Cadena, Stephanie Dimas, Karla Gonzalez, Jackie Lopez, Sarah San Miguel, Alexandria Ortega and Justin Uresti.

Reyna recounted the personal stories of each beneficiary.

Some of the scholarship applicants, including Dimas and Gonzalez, described the struggles of their immigrant parents.

Others like Cadena and San Miguel gave accounts of their ambition to contribute to the betterment of their community upon graduation from high school.
