The Friends of Guadalupe River State Park/Honey Creek will host Halloween in the Park on Oct. 26 for children ages 2 to 12.

Children will have the fun of walking down a wooded path lit by candlelight and lanterns while being greeted by costumed characters with candy treats along the way.

After completing the trail that starts and ends at the amphitheater, visitors can have hot dogs and refreshments and roast marshmallows over an open fire for a real treat. A storyteller will be telling age-appropriate stories at the amphitheater.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with storytelling and trick or treat the for young children (ages 2 to 6) followed by the same activities for big spooks (ages 7 to 12) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Hot dogs and drinks will be served between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. while they last.

Park entry fee is $3 per person after 6 p.m. (half price) Children under 13 years of age are admitted free of charge.

Even though the event itself is free of charge, the Friends of Guadalupe River State Park group is asking for donations at the Halloween site. The donation is deductible.

Due to the tremendous response in the past couple of years, community support is needed to man the trail stations where volunteers in costume will provide and hand out candy, officials said. Volunteers are also needed to assist with food, decorating, and donation collection.
