Bed-and-breakfast establishments are as unique as their owners. That was something participants in the Bed and Breakfast Tour of Boerne surely discovered Sunday as the owners of seven area establishments put their hospitality on display.

Garden Gate Cottage owner Rebecca Rogers demonstrated a quaint Victorian sensibility with the help of designer Judi Martin, who is a former neighbor of Rogers.

“We had a lot of fun. We did all the local thrift shops,” said Martin, showing off the cozy rooms of the 500-square-foot cottage, which sits behind Rogers’ main Everngreen Street residence. ImageAntiques, floral fabrics and natural bent-wood touches lend a light air to the downstairs quarters, while the upstairs accommodations featured a cowgirl theme.

For Kathy “Tinka” McKay and her husband, Mike, the Honey Dew Cottage was the opportunity to put Mike’s vast collection of cowboy memorabilia to good use.

While the grounds outside the cottage featured a parklike atmosphere, complete with babbling brook and an arbor, the inside of the one-room cabin is wall-to-wall Texana, down to an armoire featuring “horny toad” door pulls.

Carpenter’s Cottage, the historical Theissen Street bed and breakfast owned by Janice and Ray Sprayberry showed off a Craftsman sensibility highlighted by built-in cabinetry and remarkable quarter-sawn floors.
