The Chamber: Get an education about transportation PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 08 June 2007
Transportation and mobility is one of the greatest challenges facing our community. It is a complex issue because it encompasses emergency preparedness, economy, environment, sustainable housing, local control, tax burdens, and convenience. Each of these issues is complex on its own merit, but when put together it may seem insurmountable. The fact is that solutions are on the horizon. In November 2005 Kendall County Commissioners created a “Thoroughfare Planning Citizens Committee” (TPCC). The committee was charged with achieving the following goals:

- Identify existing mobility needs and propose solutions to existing mobility needs.

- Identify mobility needs likely to occur in the future and propose solutions for future mobility needs.

- Review neighboring counties plans for future mobility needs and propose methods of working in conjunction with the neighboring counties.

- Preserve the rural nature of Kendall County.

The committee has completed their report and information can be found on the county Web site at www.co.kendall.tx.us. The chamber’s governmental affairs council encourages the business community to educate itself about the issues associated with transportation and mobility, but even more important we encourage participation in the upcoming meetings so that we can move toward consensus and resolution of a thoroughfare plan that will allow the master plan to be realized. Time is of the essence, and it is very important that we participate with the intention of gaining consensus, seeking resolution and working toward implementation. Mark your calendar for 9 a.m. Monday to attend the Commissioner’s Court workshop meeting to learn more about transportation and mobility issues in Kendall County in the Old County Courthouse.
