Clark students take laurels at State Latin Competition PDF Print E-mail

This past weekend, approximately 2,100 Latin students congregated on the campus of O’Connor High School and competed at the 67th annual Texas State Junior Classical League State Latin Competition. Clark High School finished first in Sweepstakes (Medium School Division) and is the State Champion.

“This is the first time in history that Clark has placed first in Sweeps,” said Latin instructor William H. Lee.

Also, Clark had students on the Novice and the Advanced Certamen team that will be representing Texas at the national competition. Several Clark Latin students will now advance to the national competition to be held on the campus of University of Tennessee at Knoxville July 23-29. Here are the results for the individual contests:

Alanis, Aaron: second Place, Sight Recitation, Level 1.

Alanis, Adrian: eighth place, Sight Recitation, Level 3; eighth place, Mottoes, Phrases, Abbreviations & Quotations, Level 3.

Boyette, Deborah: fourth Place Mythology Level 1; first place, Certamen Novice Division (alternate)

Burton, Michael: first place, Roman History, Level 1; first Place Certamen Novice Division; 10th place, Decathlon, Level 1.

Campbell, Adair: seventh place, Mottoes, Level 2; second place, Certamen Intermediate Division(alternate)

Dotson, Marissa: sixth place, Vocabulary, Level 2.

Ellis, Hunter: seventh place, Roman History, Level 2.

Garrett, David: sixth place, Latin Literature, Level 2.

Hosek, Kyle:10th place, Sight Recitation, Level 2.

Lee, Danny (Ui): fifth place, Greek Life and Literature, Level 2.

Lee, Meagan: fifth place, Mottoes, Phrases, Abbreviations & Quotations, Level 1.

Lee, Nathan:10th place, Vocabulary, Level 3.

Leifur, Ross: fourth place, Roman Life, Level 3.

Liu, Dianna: first place, Reading Comprehension Advanced Prose, Level 3; fourth place, Oil & Acrylic; sixth place, Decathlon, Level 3; first place, Certamen Advanced Division.

Mikiten, Benjamin: fourth place, Roman Life, Level 2.

Philipp, Corey: first place, Roman History, Level 3; first place, Ancient Geography, Level 3; first place, Certamen Advanced Division.

Pierce, Noah: sixth place, Latin Literature, Level 3.

Ratnayeke, Nalin: second place, Grammar, Level 1; first place, Certamen Novice Division.

Ritchey, Chris: ninth place, Greek History, Level 1.

Winter, Alexa (Lauryn): 10th Place Reading Comprehension, Level 2.

Zeleznak, JP: second place, Ancient Geography, Level 1.

Zhong, Allen: third place, Greek History, Level 2.

Top-score trophies:

Dianna Liu:Reading Comprehension Advanced Prose.

Corey Philipp: Roman History and Ancient Geography. (It was the first time a Clark student has won two top-score trophies.

Pentathlon:

Summa cum laude: 11 certificates

Maxima cum laude: 9 certificates

Magna cum laude: 15 certificates

Cum laude: 7 certificates
