By Nancy Becker Special Contributor Excitement has been building, as the date of the annual Bulverde Senior Center style show and luncheon approaches. Set for this Saturday, it promises to be a memorable event, as in years past. A salad lunch will be served and door prizes will be given as names are drawn throughout the afternoon. The beautiful raffle basket will be presented to the winner, as well. If you haven’t yet bought chances, you may do so prior to the drawing and you don’t have to be a member of BSC to win. Fashions presented by Coldwater Creek will be the highlight of the day, and beautiful, relaxing harp music will fill the center to add the finishing touch. Don’t miss this anticipated event! Plan your Saturday afternoon from 1 to 4 at the Bulverde Senior Center, next to the Fire Station on Cougar Bend. There are some tickets left for purchase at $18 each. Amy Gilbertson was our luncheon speaker last Monday. Gilbertson, the community outreach coordinator with Hope Hospice, informed us about services that are available to us from her organization. Shuffleboard has been suggested as a new activity for members of BSC. Before preparing a shuffleboard court, we need to know how many people would be interested in participating in this activity. Someone has also suggested washers or horseshoes, as well. There will soon be a sign-up sheets at the center to show interest in any of these activities. The old carpet has been torn out of our conference room and replaced by tile, under the direction of Vernal Bracken. Vernal and Doug Underwood waxed and polished it last week after the installation. We heard that there has been a confirmed case of rabies reported in our area. A kitten, who seemed unwell, bit a person who picked it up. The kitten was tested for rabies and the disease was verified. The neighbor who was bitten is now taking the series of rabies shots. Be sure your pets are vaccinated, and report any stray animals acting strangely. If you have Internet access, you might want to look at the Web site www.rabies.com for information about the disease. A box has been set up at the Bulverde Senior Center for donations of school supplies. Donations will benefit children in our own community for the coming school year. Remember, we will continue bringing sandwiches and salads for our Monday lunches for the rest of July and August. In September, we will resume hot meals. “Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” – Abraham Lincoln |
