Saturday

Steele High School Project Graduation will hold a community craft and home-based business fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Catholic Daughters of the Americas chapter 2489 is holding its annual Christmas Arts and Crafts Bazaar from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. in the St. Monica’s Catholic School cafeteria at 501 North St., off FM 78 in Converse. Admission is free.

Homes For The Homeless hosts is pre-Thanksgiving bake sale from 9 a.m. “until sold out” at the new Universal City Animal Care and Control facility, 134 Athenian. Call: 658-2594.

Alamo Coin Club presents its coin show 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Live Oak Civic Center, 8101 Pat Booker Road. Admission: $2 adults, free for children 17-under.

Windcrest Animal Hospital offers low-cost vaccinations for dogs and cats at four area clinics: 9-11 a.m. at Wal-Mart, Loop 1604 and Nacogdoches Road; 12:30-2 p.m. at Silver’s Pet and Feed, 675 FM 1103 in Cibolo; and 12:30-2 p.m. at Polly’s Pet Shop, 940 Pat Booker Road. A Sunday clinic is slated from 12:30-2 p.m. at the Schertz H-E-B, I-35 and FM 3009.

The public is invited to celebrate Thanksgiving with games, stories and more at Borders Books in The Forum at Olympia Parkway, starting at 2 p.m.

Boy Scout Troop 51 of Schertz is hosting a CiCi’s Pizza Rebate Night at the Forum from 4-9 p.m.

The Puerto Rican Heritage Society presents a public celebration noon-7 p.m. at the Live Oak Civic Center. Includes traditional foods, music, crafts and entertainment. Admission: $10 adults, $5 children 11-under.

Nov. 29

A Southern gospel music concert begins at 6 p.m. at Kirby Baptist Church, 5114 Old Seguin Road, and features the Southern Joy Quartet, of Corsicana, Texas. A “love donation” will be gathered. Contact: Norma Burton, 654-9694.

ONGOING PROGRAMS

The Randolph Area Christian Assistance Program (RACAP) will continue to accept applications for the Christmas holiday assistance program through Tuesday. Applications will be accepted from families in need of help for the holidays because of limited or no income, who are at or below the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Applicants for assistance must live in the following zip codes: 78108, 78109, 78132, 78148, 78154, 78247, 78233 (Live Oak only) or x  78266. Those in need of assistance may contact RACAP at 307 Pfeil St., Schertz, Monday-Friday, 1-3 p.m. or call 658-1613.

Registration is under way for the third annual Steele High School Dance, Cheer and Mascot Clinic, set for Dec. 6 at Steele High. Signup begins at 8:30 a.m., clinic runs 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and the “parent show-off” is set for 2:45 p.m. All participants will be invited to cheer and dance at a Dec. 9 Steele High School basketball game. The Schertz Public Library Bookstore Christmas Sale begins Dec. 1 and runs until the library closes for Christmas season. The sale, being held at the library, 608 Schertz Parkway, features popular authors, Christmas books, Christmas craft books, children’s books, magazines, videos, DVDs, music CDs, and audio books. The Alamo Community Colleges needs host parents to share their homes with exchange students from Japan who will arrive Dec. 2 and depart Dec. 20. Single individuals as well as married couples are eligible. Hosts receive reimbursement to help defray expenses. Students are carefully screened before being admitted to the program. WellMed sponsors free flu shot clinics for Medicare-eligible seniors from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesdays through December at 12702 Toepperwein Road, Suite 120; and 2-4 p.m. Thursdays at 8101 Roughrider Drive, 14100 Nacogdoches Road, Suite 116 and at 2455 N.E. Loop 410, Suite 100.

The Converse Animal Shelter, a non-profit/no-kill organization, needs “Christmas elves” to help sew Christmas stockings. Simple straight-line stitching can be done in your home. Contact: CASI, 9634 Schaefer Road, 658-4821.

The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD and the Schertz-Cibolo Optimist Club are holding their Coats for Kids Drive until Nov. 30. People with new or “gently worn” coats can bring them to any SCUCISD school, Alex Hartman State Farm Insurance or Global Realty Group, 1420 Schertz Parkway. The drive will benefit local students in need from kindergarten up to high school.
