By Jeff B. Flinn Editor With the Judson Rockets, “it is what it is.” The Rockets’ initial foray into District 27-5A produced a 7-0 mark and a district crown, secured as a result of another spectacular rushing performance by Chauncey Harris as Judson turned back Corpus Christi Carroll, 32-21, last Friday. Harris led the Rocket ground game, speeding, spinning and bulldozing to 226 yards and three touchdowns on 33 carries. His first touchdown, a 25-yarder, gave Judson a 10-7 lead that it would not relinquish; his second, a 65-yard burst, spurred the Rockets to a 23-7 halftime lead. Harris’ final touchdown, a 1-yard run, gave Judson what seemed to be an insurmountable third-quarter lead, at 29-7. But Carroll didn’t go down without a fight, rallying late for two fourth-quarter scores that cut the lead to 32-21. But turnovers — a fumble and an interception — and a bevy of penalties, nine for 60 yards, kept Carroll from getting any closer than 11 points the rest of the way. The win gave Judson an 8-2 record overall and puts the Rockets at the doorstep to another run at the playoffs. That venture begins when Judson hosts the Stevens Falcons in a 7:30 p.m. Friday kickoff at D.W. Rutledge Stadium. |
