Should’ve voted for the dog

Editor:

“Obama rallies the faithful at Verizon” (March 6 Herald) was excellent. According to letter-writer Angela Lehane (March 27 Herald), I am a socialist. That’s still better than being a neo-fascist-conservative.

Her statement, “Obama and Hillary use the politics of fear,” coming from a Republican, after watching the Bush regime over seven years, has to be the epitome of misunderstanding the truth.

Bush’s tax cuts for the rich, with his Iraqi war, have put our nation close to bankruptcy. First time ever a president has made huge tax cuts while we are in a major war.

U.S. National Debt Clock indicates the nation’s debt is at $9.4 trillion, which $5.6 trillion is public debt ($2 trillion to foreign investors by U.S. Treasury bonds) and $3.8 trillion owed by Congress to trust funds (U.S. Treasury bonds). Defaulting on these bonds, with our dollar’s value now at its lowest in many years, will hit bottom, followed by a depression — making the 1929 depression look like an afternoon tea party.

Bush has increased the national debt $3.8 trillion. Interest on debt is going to be over $400 billion this year, a.k.a. “wasted money.” With this administration, we all live the good life and pass our bills to the next generations.

How much longer until uninformed Republicans, still supporting Bush, recognize the truth?

Lehane wrote, “I’d sooner vote for Bush’s dog” than Obama or Hillary. If all Republicans had voted for his dog in 2000 and 2004, our nation would be much better off.

Article very informative

Editor:

The article “Converse eyes park redesign” in the March 27 Herald, prepared by Jeff Flinn, was extremely well-written, very informative, factual and thoroughly explained the concept and long-range planning that goes into a project of this size.

Residents hear bits and pieces of Converse news and begin taking sides either pro or con for a project, without having a full understanding of the entire process. Mr. Flinn went directly to Mayor Al Suarez to get his information and prepared a very informative report for the citizens of Converse.

Our citizens need to know that it takes a lot of work behind the scenes to make a project very successful. When visitors begin entering a well-designed park off of FM 78 that offers a wide variety of activities/events, their “Converse experience” will make a positive lasting impression not only for us but for the entire Metrocom.

Thank you, Mr. Flinn, for investing your time and energy to bring this report to the residents of the northeast Metrocom area.
