Leticia Espinales Life As I See It Leticia Espinales
Something special occurred on July 21, a global event that required a tremendous amount of planning and secrecy. There were many attempts made to discover the details and share them with others via the Internet; however, true enthusiasts were not daunted. Similar events had occurred only six times before but never to this extent, as the anticipation was never this acute. Across this nation many events were held to commemorate and share the feeling of exorbitant happiness. There were even costume contests for both children and adults. However, at the same time, everyone knew this would be the last time for these celebrations. Thusly, shortly after midnight in the wee hours of that morning there was a collective hush across the land. What could keep both children and adults up during the early hours of July 21? It was a phenomenon I think I will never see duplicated again. It was all because of a children’s book — the Harry Potter series of books. Author J.K. Rowling hit the literary lottery with this collection. It has not only captured the imagination of children but also that of adults worldwide. I too have been enchanted with this collection of writings. Several years ago, a very good adult friend suggested I read the first book and I then I was hooked. I now own the entire series. It has a special place in my home and I sometimes joke that if I ever become a grandmother I will happily purchase the child its own Harry Potter collection, because mine is off limits. It is terrible but true. I also am a great fan of the Harry Potter movies. I may not go to the movies often, but you can bet that I will be right there during the opening weekend of each installment of the films. Yes, I am a big fan. I am taking great care to really appreciate this exceptional literary work as I prepare to read the final installment. I was hoping the author would reconsider her decision and continue writing, but she has stayed firm in her beliefs that this seventh book would be the last. So perhaps I am stalling and trying to avoid the inevitable. Whatever the case, I will relish each chapter and appreciate the efforts of an author so extraordinary that she not only resurrected the art of reading among our youth, but has also managed to reignite the imagination of adults as well — for not only the present but for many generations to come. Quite a magical feat indeed! Leticia Espinales can be reached at:
