Special to the Herald

The Randolph Area Christian Assistance Program is celebrating 25 years of service to those in need of help in the Metrocom.

The Schertz-based emergency food pantry will observe its 25th anniversary at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Resurrection Baptist Church, 1002 Live Oak Road in Schertz.

Program representatives said the celebration will be an opportunity to formally thank the current volunteers for their many hours of support. The 22-currently active member churches in the Greater Randolph Area will be recognized, as well as several civic organizations and families that provide help with pantry needs and support for special programs on a continuing basis.

Mayors and council members from the RACAP service areas have been invited to attend the celebration in honor of the contribution RACAP makes in assisting residents of their communities.

The nine original charter churches from 1983 will also be recognized for their foresight in developing RACAP to meet area residents’ needs of as well as their ongoing support over the past 25 years. The event will include entertainment by the Universal City First Baptist Church High School Jazz Band and the Resurrection Baptist Church Praise Team. A reception will follow.

Because RACAP seeks to recognize all volunteers and board members who have served during its 25 years of operation, an up-to-date list of names and addresses is currently being compiled.

Call the office at 658-1613 with your name and current address if you served in the past but have not been actively serving at RACAP in recent years.

Additionally, the National Letter Carriers Association will hold a nationwide food drive for local food banks, including RACAP, on May 10. Since 1991 the Letter Carriers of Schertz and Cibolo have been collecting food for RACAP.

Area residents and merchants are receiving a reminder card in the mail, suggesting that a bag of canned goods be dropped off near the mailbox or cluster box so that the letter carriers can pick it up.

Upon delivery of the donated food to RACAP, volunteers will unload the food from the mail trucks while the letter carriers will be provided a lunch and soda as a show of appreciation.

Donations can also be brought to the pantry at 307 Pfeil Road in Schertz between 1 and 3 p.m. weekdays.
