Nov. 18, 10:23 p.m., 4800 block of Broadway: Two officers responded to Central Market for a report of a shoplifting incident. When they arrived, a man waiting at the register was pointed out and the officers waited for him to exit the store, where he was stopped and told to empty his pockets. The police found nine items that were not paid for. The shoplifter was arrested, handcuffed, issued a criminal trespass warning for previous convictions, transported to police headquarters for processing, and then taken to the magistrate’s office.

Criminal mischief

Nov. 19, 12:54 p.m., 200 block of Oakview Place: Responding to a possible burglary, a homeowner said he saw two males wearing hardhats and carrying toolbelts walk into the backyard of a neighboring residence. The officer investigated the scene and found pry marks on the back door and damage to the door frame and doorknob.

Criminal mischief

Nov. 19, 9:51 a.m., 500 block of Cleveland Court: A resident reported that sometime during the previous day an unknown person had forced open the door of his residence, breaking the door, doorknob and deadbolt. The victim said nothing appeared to be missing, and the reporting officer took photos of the damage.

Possession of marijuana

Nov. 20, 7:55 a.m., 5900 block of Broadway: An officer stopped a vehicle after observing the driver switch lanes without signaling. The officer noticed a strong marijuana odor coming from the car as he spoke with the driver and then requested a cover officer. When the driver was asked if he was smoking pot, he responded “I smoked some bud earlier this morning.” The driver and a passenger were asked to step out of the car as they and the car were searched. The officer sound flakes of marijuana all over the floorboards, and a lit cigar that contained marijuana in the ashtray. The driver was arrested for possession of marijuana under 2 ounces, put in the police car, while the passenger was released.
