Dear Editor: Mayor Stevick and the City Council apparently do not want to listen to Bulverde voters and what residents said about home rule last year. The council recently appointed a new home-rule charter commission, but council needed to do it with some commission members who appear to be related, four members who were on the previous commission and the wife of a council member. Apparently, not enough people volunteered. After all, why volunteer when you know the appointed commission will most likely be directed to approve the previously approved charter which was defeated by voters. People residing in the ETJ of Bulverde were not allowed on the new home-rule charter commission. Put more spin on it, and try it again, and again, and again, until it does pass. Sounds a lot like San Antonio. Is this what Bulverde residents want from this council, to act like politicians in San Antonio? Why not be unique and give people, all people, even people in the ETJ, a real say? Not the Bulverde City Coun-cil. They want to be just like San Antonio. Forced annexations. Bulverde is becoming just like San Antonio, and unless Bulverde residents get out and vote against the home-rule charter, either on May 10 or Nov. 4, Bulverde taxpayers will be confronted with a rapidly expanding city (forced annexations), bigger city government and a higher tax rate to boot. New slogan – Bulverde, the front door to San Antonio. Michael Maurer Sr. Spring Branch |
