Sarah Stevick Bulverde Mayor
The city staff and I are working with Texas Com-mission on Environ-mental Quality to remedy the water trihalomethane situation in Bulverde Hills. Though there are media reports to the contrary, the latest discussion with TCEQ indicates that the cause of the high levels of THM has not been determined and they are working with Canyon Lake Water Company (San Jose) and the Bexar Metropolitan Water District to determine the problem and applicable remedies.

Staff and I hope to meet with TCEQ in January to resolve this issue. Representatives from both BexarMet and San Jose have assured me they are trying to resolve the situation.

Joseph Hamilton of San Antonio has been offered the position of Bulverde police chief. Once a satisfactory employment physical and detailed credit check are completed, he will begin employment on Jan. 2 or so. City Council reviewed Mr. Hamilton’s resume, employment application, reference checks and generalized credit history prior to his interview.

I am in the process of reviewing requests of residents to serve on the Animal Control Committee. The city received an overwhelming response out of which five to seven members will be chosen. I encourage those who are not selected for this committee to attend the meetings anyway. Committee members will be announced at the Jan. 9 council meeting.

I ask everyone please to drive carefully and a little more slowly on our area roads. The number and the severity of accidents are increasing, especially on Texas 46. I will again have staff request that the Texas Department of Transportation reduce the speed limit on Texas 46 as a safety measure.

Members of the flood committee will be contacting residents in Oak Village North whose property includes Lewis Creek. The city has set aside money to clear obstructions in Lewis creek but must obtain permission from landowners since this is private property. If the majority of landowners do not agree to the clearing, these funds will be utilized for other flood control projects. Deadline to file permission forms is Feb 28. Please contact City Engineer John Nowak, for more information.

City staff and I wish everyone a happy, safe and prosperous New Year.
