By Sarah Stevick Bulverde Mayor There’s quite a bit of things currently happening and projected. The following is a listing of some of the major things that residents need to be aware of: 1. A home-rule commission has been selected and will start meeting very shortly. It is anticipated that home-rule election will begin November 2008 – too late for the May election. 2. The city is working with Canyon Lake Water Service regarding the city’s CCN as well as water distribution system. Basically, the contracts with GBRA will be terminated and new contracts with CLWS be initiated. This could take several months by the time contracts are worked out and approved by TCEQ. 3. CLWS is also trying to work with Bexar Met to acquire current Bexar Met assets in Bulverde. This may take awhile, since the Bexar Met board has either tabled or denied the CLWS offer. Depending upon what happens, water rates for Bexar Met customers could significantly increase if CLWS has to increase their offer. At this rate, the city could be contesting another water rate increase which would result in every resident being affected due to past actions of Diamond and Water Services. 4. Water for the schools is on hold because GBRA does not want to further invest in a distribution system, CLWS does not have the authority to expand upon the current distribution system and Bexar Met does not want to expand their system. 5. Staff is working with CPS to have security lighting installed in city hall parking lot. The parking lights would be the decorative, old-fashioned types in keeping with the décor of the area. 6. The Texas attorney general has accepted Comal County’s request for an opinion versus the City of Bulverde and Kendall County regarding the enforcement of certain subdivision items. Our city attorney is currently working on a response to the attorney general with a suspense of Feb. 22. 7. Council will discuss striping of roads within the city at the next council meeting. 8. Residents are encouraged to submit their comments reference road striping to council as well as attend the meeting on Feb. 12. 9. Staff will also present this year’s road maintenance and repair plan to council on Feb. 12. |
