By Mike Reeder View Sports Writer The Boerne Greyhound varsity baseball team manhandled Memorial 21-0 in the district opener for both teams Friday night at the Minutemen’s home field. The Hounds were already up 7-0 when they exploded for 14 runs in the top of the sixth. The game ended on the mercy rule after Memorial failed to score in the bottom of the inning. Boerne scored once in the first, twice in the second, three times in the third and once more in the fourth before finally coming up dry in the fifth inning. Boerne pitcher Stephen Jackson allowed only four hits and went the distance for the win. Greyhound infielder San Lampe drove in four runs and outfielder Brian Kessler hit a solo shot in the fourth for the game’s only home run. Boerne improved to 12-7 overall and 1-0 in district. Memorial fell to 1-11 and 0-1. Boerne, Alamo Heights and Kerrville Tivy were all tied for the district lead after one game. Fredericksburg and San Antonio Kennedy joined Memorial at 0-1.
