Thelma McKay, grandmother of Scenic Oaks resident Dana Shannon, reached the100-year milestone on October 10, 2007 with the incredible feat of mounting a real live Texas Longhorn. A former long time resident of Gillett and Karnes City, she celebrated at Aldersgate Methodist Church on Oct. 6 with family and friends. She resides now with her daughter Nell Cheslyn at 2615 Sally Gay.

Keep Boerne Beautiful's fourth annual Make A Difference Day waterway clean up begins registration at 8:30 a.m. at the Main Plaza gazebo. Breakfast and free T-shirts are available for the first 150 volunteers, who will all be provided with service patches, gloves and trash bags. Helen Augusta Grandjean celebrated her 100th birthday on Friday. She is a resident at Boerne Heritage Place, where she had a celebration.
The Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance’s annual Feral Hog Roast, 4 to 10 p.m. at the Don Strange Ranch in Welfare, features some of San Antonio’s finest celebrity chefs competing to serve up the tastiest feral. The event includes hayrides, horseshoes, dining, drinking and dancing. Silent and live auction items will be available for bidding. Tickets are $100 per adult, $30 per child 10 and under (children under 4 get in free). GEAA members get a 20 percent discount on adult tickets. All proceeds support the Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance and our 40 member organization. SUNDAY, NOV. 4

A flu shot clinic will be held 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at St. Mark Presbyterian Church, 208 W. Bandera in Boerne. The clinic, sponsored by the St. Mark Parish Nursing Committee and Boerne Acute Care, will be held in the CE/ELC building, which is the first building behind the main structure. The clinic is open to the public. Boerne Acute Care will file Medicare for Medicare recipients. All others will be charged $25. Payment may be made by check or cash only.

Boerne Bed & Breakfast and Cuisine Tour features seven Boerne bed-and-breakfast business that will open their doors 1 to 5 p.m. to visitors to enjoy a glimpse their unique hospitality and sample dishes from local restaurants that reflect a taste of the community. A church bazaar hosted by The Leon Springs Presbyterian Church, 23943 Interstate 10 West (between Leon Springs Elementary School and Sonic Drive-In), 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with arts and crafts, Christmas items, books, small antiques, candles, plants, paintings, jewelry and more. A barbecue lunch, silent auction and baked goods are also available. Vendors are welcome. Spaces are for rent.
