AARP Tax Aide volunteers are available to help tax-paying citizens who need help with their IRS returns. Anyone who pays taxes is eligible for this free service, which takes place every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Boerne Library. Read All About It Bookstore will feature H. Leon Springs Farmer’s Market is held every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p. m. at the Leon Springs Dance Hall, 24135 W. Interstate 10, in the parking lot (Boerne Stage Road exit, across from Rudy’s Barbecue). Vendors offer a variety of edibles, from fresh produce to honey, nuts, breads, jams and jellies. March 28

Boerne Parks & Recreation, Boerne Public Library & Sterling Home Technologies presents Movie in the Park on March 28 at sundown (7:45ish) in Main Plaza. Prepare for summer by practicing for the Movies in the Park series on the 540-square-foot screen. Bring chairs, blankets, friends and family for an evening under the stars. Movie hint: The “Truffle Shuffle” was first introduced to the world by “Chunk” in this 1985 Warner Bros. comedy classic. Rated PG – 114 min.

March 29

St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church presents the sixth annual Art Auction Gala on March 29 at the Boerne Community Center. The fund-raising event is sponsored by the Women’s Ministry, with proceeds going to educational scholarships. Tickets are $20 per person or $35 per couple. Call (830) 816-2233 for details.

Boerne Business Expo is set 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 29 at Kendall County Fairgrounds, Highway 46 East. Free admission and free parking. Frost Bank’s Kids Fair with petting zoo and Moon Bounce will be part of the fun. Cibolo Nature Center sponsors a Natural Landscape Design Workshop 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

March 30 and 31

Boerne Community Theatre is holding auditions for “Private Eyes,” by Steven Dietz, on March 30 and March 31 at 7p.m.  Private Eyes is a comedy of suspicion in which nothing is ever quite what it seems. Parts are available for an attractive actor, in his 30s, a beautiful actress, in her 30s; a male to play a British director in his 30s; a woman to play Cory, in her late 20s; a therapist, can be a man or woman, in his/her 50s. Auditions are at Boerne Community Theatre, 907 E. Blanco Road and performances are set May 9 through May 17. Boerne-area high school seniors can apply for one of Boerne Community Theatre’s two $500 scholarships. Eligibility requirements for the grants include living in the Boerne/Fair Oaks Ranch area or in Comfort and participation in at least one high school drama class or at least one high school or community theater production (cast or crew). Applicants must submit a theatrical resume, including training and experience, and submit a 200-word essay discussing how theater has made a difference in the life of the student. CitiFinancial, a member of Citigroup, will be raising money for March of Dimes through May 30. You can help make the fundraiser be a success by donating an item, a gift certificate or services to use as a sweepstake or auction during the campaign. Boerne Community Theatre is registering students for summer drama camps. There will be three sessions this summer: June 9 through 22 at the theater; July 7 through 20 at the Geneva School; and Aug. 4 through 17 at the theater. Each camp can accommodate 35 children; there will be a different production for each session. The cost for the two-week camps is $300 per child. Cibolo Nature Center invites students 13 years old and up to register for a new, 12-hour Camp Counselor Training program. It will be held from noon to 4:30 p.m. on three Saturdays, April 5, 12 and 19 (with April 26 for make-up). Camp Counselor Training will prepare youths and young adults to work as junior or senior counselors at the Nature Center’s Summer Adventure Camps. Summer camps run weekly from June 9 through Aug. 1. Trained camp counselors will be able to choose the summer camp weeks to work.

April 1

Mayor Dan Heckler will host a community open house on April 1 at the Boerne Community Center beginning at 6 p.m. The event is open to the public and will last about 2 hours.

April 9

Hill Country Newcomers Club will welcome spring with a fashion show. The event will be held at The Dominion Country Club and will begin at 11 a.m. Fashions and commentary will be presented by Texas Lady Boutique, San Antonio. Members and their guests are invited to attend.
