The San Antonio Food Bank has announced its annual holiday drive.

The goal of the drive is to collect a million pounds of food on the tables of the city’s most needy.

“Every day, people in our community have to make the choice between food and medicine, between enjoying a meal themselves and feeding their children,” says Eric Cooper, executive director for the San Antonio Food Bank.  “It’s vitally important that we provide the nutritional assistance they need.”

The Food Bank is asking the community to participate by donating a million pounds of canned food.

Donations can be made online at www.ssfcu.org. Every dollar donated equals 10 pounds of canned goods.

Canned good donations can also be dropped off at any one of 21 Security Service Federal Credit Union service centers in San Antonio, Boerne and Schertz from Nov. 1 through 30.

The most needed items are peanut butter, cereal, tuna, beans, rice, macaroni and cheese, chili, canned soup, lunch meat, pop top foods, and full meals in a box or can. For participating Security Service Federal Credit Union service centers go to www.ssfcu.org.
