Grey Forest Farmers Market, 3 to 6 p.m. next to the Grey Forest Fire Department at the corner of Scenic Loop Road and Sherwood Trail, is held the first and third Fridays of each month.

Saturday
A turkey round-up held 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Security Service Federal Credit Union, 12707 Interstate 10 West, aims to collect thousands of turkeys for distribution by the San Antonio Food Bank. Donors may drop off frozen turkey donations as well as canned goods and other items. Financial donations may be made online by going to www.safoodbank.org or in person at any Security Service FCU service center.
Enjoy an hour of kid-friendly interpretation and activities at the Government Canyon State Natural Area 11 a.m. noon and again from 2 to 3 p.m., rain or shine. Programming is targeted at kids but open to all ages; group size limited. Meet at Visitor Center by the rainwater harvesting tower. For more information, call 688-9055.

Former Sugar Land Mayor David Wallace will discuss and sign copies of “One Nation Under Blog: Forget the Facts...Believe What I Say!” at 1 p.m. Saturday at Barnes and Noble, De Zavala Road and Interstate 10 West. While having served in other capacities, Wallace discovered blogging is a freedom of speech issue that has varying effects on personal safety and decency.

Ellen Hopkins will discuss and sign copies of “Identical” at 7 p.m. Monday at Barnes and Noble, De Zavala Road and Interstate 10 West. The book is delves into the psyches of 16-year-old identical twins, both of whom are racing toward self-destruction.

Tuesday
Helotes Historical Society hosts a luncheon at 1 p.m. at Floore Country Store. Retired FBI Agent and former Helotes Police Chief Fritz Bohne will speak on “100 Years of the FBI,” sharing about the agency, personal experiences, high-profile cases and memorabilia. Membership in the HHS is $10 per individual or $15 per family. Nov. 29
A farmers’ market at featuring fresh produce is held 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at H-E-B at Potranco and Loop 1604 every other week.
 “Camp with a Ranger” lets campers join staff interpreter and former UT-Austin outdoor guide John Koepke on an overnight backpack trip into the heart of the Government Canyon backcountry. Along the way campers will learn the story of Government Canyon, get tips and tricks for backpacking and backcountry travel, capped off by a unique opportunity to pitch a tent under the stars and swap outdoor adventure stories in the midst of San Antonio’s largest expanse of urban wilderness. The Friends of Government Canyon Volunteers, the second Saturday of each month, conduct a guided five- to seven-mile hike on one of the many trails at the State Natural Area. Group size is limited to the first 10 people. Entry fees apply.

“Exploring Government Canyon” interpretive walks, conducted the third Sunday of each month, begin at 9:30 a.m. at the visitor center by the rainwater harvesting tower. The hikes are subject to cancellation; call to confirm 688-9055, ext 292.

Casa Helotes Senior Citizens Center, 12070 Leslie Road, serves lunch for seniors Monday through Friday for $3. On Thursdays, it’s $2. Casa Helotes also offers: Fitness for Seniors with Jose every day from 10 to 11:30 a.m.; Domino 42 games at 9 a.m. every Tuesday and Friday; and Bingo most Thursdays after lunch.
