Eagle Scout is one of Helotes’ finest

I would like to recognize the leadership and volunteerism of one of Helotes’s finest young citizens.

This young man recently completed his final project to become an Eagle Scout. For his project he conducted the tree survey for the Parrigin Playground. He designed the survey, organized the services of fellow scouts, family members, community volunteers, and the Helotes Parks and Open Space Committee and performed the survey.

Through the many volunteer work sessions, he managed to get over 50 individuals to donate 300 hours of their Saturday mornings to clear the playground site, identify trees and bushes, and to conduct the survey. He arranged for all supplies, drinks and meals to be donated, at no cost, to the City. He solicited the technical support of the Helotes Forestry Committee and Raba-Kistner Consultants, Inc. to perform the equivalent of a professional survey.

His actions have gone a long way to make the Parrign Playground a reality for future generations of Helotes children and families. For all these actions, and much more, I want to recognize Mr. Shayne Walker, Eagle Scout, truly one of Helotes’s Finest.
