The board of trustees of the East Central Independent School District met in regular monthly session on Sept. 18. Following are highlights of the meeting:

East Central High School Junior ROTC students received the Honor Unit Award and Orders from SSG Cervantes and also the Wish Art award presented by Sarah Gaye Conner, representing the Make a Wish Foundation.

A public hearing was held to discuss the proposed budget and tax rate.

The October school board meeting date is Oct. 23 at Heritage. This will be the annual meeting to honor schools for achieving “recognized” status. There will be a reception at 5:30 p.m. and awards followed by a business meeting.

In a construction update, work began on the foundation and FFA building, as well as finishing the design work.

The agriculture facility and foundation work is part of Package 3 that will be taken to the board for consideration in October.

Utility infrastructure and foundation pack will be presented at the October meeting.
