Hazel Ferne Stone
Hazel Ferne Stone, 94, a former Rush Springs, Okla., resident, passed away Feb. 23, at Town and Country Manor in Boerne. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Southern Baptist Church in Rush Springs, with the Rev. Elmer Whitehead officiating. Visitation will be 6-7:30 p.m. today 1, at Vaughan’s Funeral Home in Boerne and noon-2 p.m. Saturday at the Southern Baptist Church prior to the service. Burial will be in the Rush Springs Cemetery. Flowers may be sent to the church or donations may be made, in her memory, to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800.

Born May 18, 1912, in Walters, Okla., to Lota and Jacob Grose, she attended Duncan High School, where she met Wirt Stone. They were married April 14, 1934, and lived in Marlow, Okla., until the 1940s, when they moved to Rush Springs. Wirt owned and operated a chicken hatchery in Rush Springs, and Ferne worked, for a short time, at the local library and for the Rush Springs Gazette She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker.

Ferne was preceded in death by her husband, four sisters and three brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Muegge, of Boerne; two grandchildren, Scott Cuyler of Abilene, Texas, and Deedra Cuyler of Lawton, Okla.; and three great-grandchildren.
