Report helps set health priorities

The Health Collaborative is releasing the final report of the 2006 Bexar County Community Health Assessment at a Community Leaders Breakfast today.  The assessment serves as a comprehensive report of local health, guiding the community’s efforts toward prevention and health improvement.

Key findings of the assessment are being highlighted.  Based on the report, The Health Collaborative is announcing priority issues and programs for the next five years.  Area healthcare systems and nonprofit organizations rely on the assessment for program planning and grant writing.  The data is also important to healthcare organizations, businesses, social service agencies and government entities in creating the infrastructure to support preventative care in Bexar County.

The assessment is a major initiative of The Health Collaborative, a cutting-edge, public-private model for solving community health issues.  Partners include the major healthcare systems in San Antonio, the YMCA of Greater San Antonio, Community First Health Plans, Methodist Healthcare Ministries, the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District, and a community representative. Health systems involved are Baptist Health System, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health Care, Methodist Healthcare and University Health System.

Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff and Nicole Rogers, executive director of The Health Collaborative, were scheduled to make their presentation at a 7:30 a.m. breakfast at the Bright Shawl, 819 Augusta. More than 100 community leaders were expected to attend the breakfast.
