This week’s social scene was all about girl power. From fashion shows to swanky events honoring the achievements of women, everywhere I went this week they were wearing Prada!

The theme was Fashion, Food and Fantasy at the F3 Fashion Show to benefit the San Antonio Food Bank, which feeds thousands of families throughout a 16-county area. I felt like I was in New York for Fashion Week as I watched the gorgeous models wearing the latest fashions from Julian Gold, Town & Country, Sublime, Ella Blue, Carissa and JC Penny. The event actually showcased more than just new styles, however. Mini-treatments and make-up touch-ups were also available, complements of the Aveda Institute — talk about feeling like a pampered gal!

F3 Fashion ShowKristina Guerrero of KENS 5 “Great Day SA” and Chuck Cureau served as masters of ceremonies for this totally fashionable event. Also spotted in the couture crowd were San Antonio Food Bank Executive Director Eric Cooper, SAFB Director of Development Zuani Villareal, Joven Ad Agency CEO/Creative Director Heather Ruiz, Teno Villareal, Luis Gallo, Lori Dennis, Maggie Thorschmidt, and Rudy Ruiz.

My next stop was the Beyond the Glass Ceiling event sponsored by the law firm of Oppenheimer Blend Harrison & Tate and Frost Bank. The purpose of this event is to promote the National Women’s History Project, salute women who make a difference in our community and select one woman each year to receive the Jesse H. and Sue Oppenheimer Achievement Award.

Limo Ride
Aimee Voorhies, Sue Clement, Janet Hancock, Lisa Delgado and Kim Tylman enjoy the limo ride to the Saks Fifth Avenue Pret-a-Party shopping event.
This year’s recipient was founder, president and CEO of Conceptual Mindworks Elaine Mendoza. Bethany McLean, editor-at-large of Fortune magazine, served as the keynote speaker.

I also ran into my new friend Lisa Owens who introduced me to event planning chair Diana Geis and Sallie Newman from Frost Bank. Then we chatted a while with Maria Barrett, Karen Wilson, Linda Elliott, Chris Bugg, Lynda Alston, Laila Montelongo and hostesses Jackie VanDeWalle, Kathleen Quiroz, Laura Mason.

I ended my week of wine, women and fashion with a limo ride to Saks Fifth Avenue for a private style show and shopping extravaganza. My friend Peggy Williams put the “Pret–a-Party 2007” event together and, believe me, that gal knows how to throw a party!

Beyond the Glass Ceiling

I got to ride in the limo with my friends Kim Tylman and Lisa Delgado and became new friends with Aimee Voorhies, Sue Clement, Janet Hancock and Mary Jo Hancock. I also spotted many of my “school chums” at the event including Kim Winton, Joy Fuhrmann, Jenni Curran, Kristen LeVoyer and Brandi Hollingshead.

During the show, they were serving red drinks that looked (and tasted) just like Kool Aid. But let me warn you, if you go to an event and they are serving drinks that look like Kool Aid in martini glasses, it’s NOT Kool Aid. After one of those, I was starting to think I could actually afford to buy something!

My pal Lisa Wolff and I checked out the Bond No. 9 perfume line with fragrance consultant Patricia Paz Morin who really knows her stuff. If you love perfume as much as I do, you really need to go check it out. (And tell her I sent you!)

Speaking of girl power, a few weeks ago, I accidentally “promoted” Rita Stitch when I referred to her as the “owner of the Diamond K Ranch and board president of the National Western Art Foundation.” Rita, however, is the executive assistant to Mark Watson who is the owner of the Diamond K Ranch and board president of the National Western Art Foundation. Sorry, Mr. Watson, I guess I’ll have to eat a little crow along with my champagne the next time I see you!

That’s all for my ever-fashionable adventures this week. If you’re having a stylish soiree any time soon, drop me an email at: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and let me know.
