SAC Students in Free Enterprise club win regional competition At the Students in Free Enterprise Club (SIFE) Regional Competition April 4, the San Antonio College team was named the SIFE USA Regional Champion in overall competition. The team was also recognized as a finalist in the SIFE USA Sam’s Club Entrepreneurship Competition and the SIFE US GE Consumer Products Program Sustainability Competition. The team will go on to compete at the SIFE USA National Exposition on May 6 to 8 in Dallas. As a part of the anti-piracy project, team members and volunteers surveyed students about whether they downloaded movies or music illegally, what they thought about the impact on the industry and the penalties if caught. The team used these interviews in a PowerPoint presentation, shown in a campus-wide campaign to stamp out piracy. The group also created 60-second public service announcements that were entered in the National Anti-Piracy Contest sponsored by the Motion Picture Association of America and SIFE. Winners will be announced at the national exposition in May. UIW recognized as part of national health model The University of the Incarnate Word and its community health partner St. Phillip of Jesus Parish was recently recognized in the journal of “Biosecurity & Bioterrorism” as an exemplary case for local public health partnerships. The university and parish were mentioned by the Working Group on Community Engagement in Health Emergency Planning in its recent findings and policy implications that were published in the journal. The group believes that communities and grassroots groups can help to define a plan and increase public support in dealing with potential epidemics such as an influenza pandemic. The group cited the partnership as a national model for this movement.
