The top two finishers in each event moved on to state. Senior sprinter Colton Haverda narrowly missed a state berth, finishing third in the 100 meters, only .05 seconds out of second place. Heights hurdler Lauren McPherson also grabbed a third, finishing with a time of 15.70 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, missing second by less than a stride. Junior distance specialist Chelsea Ward-Waller competed in both the 1600 and 3200 meters, having won both events at the District 27-4A meet the previous week. Ward-Waller placed fourth in the 3200 and sixth in the 1600. Senior Greg King came in 16th in the men’s 1600 meters. Junior Christine Scherrer cleared 10 feet in the pole vault to finish fourth, and Leslee Blazek clocked in at sixth place in the 200 meters. In team competition, the Alamo Heights girls were tied for 15th place with Alice.
