The University of Texas at San Antonio Small Business Development Center offers integrated, low-cost training and free counseling services to meet the needs of small business owners in San Antonio and surrounding counties. The following training opportunities are being offered in May: Thursday, May 10 – Business Plan Basics 9 a.m. to noon, UTSA Downtown, 501 W. Durango, Room 2.316 Fee: $30 This course is designed for those planning to start a new business and for business owners who have never written a business plan. The major components of a business plan will be discussed in detail and a case study will be used as an example. Learn why the business plan is an important tool when determining market feasibility, projecting costs, developing strategies, and planning for contingencies. The business plan is also instrumental for long-range planning and when submitting a financial proposal. Tuesday, May 15 – Business Start-Up Essentials 3-5 p.m., UTSA Downtown, 501 W. Durango, Room 2.316 Fee: $20 This session will introduce the requirements for starting and operating a small business, including: ?choosing a name and legal structure, (sole proprietor, partnership, or corporation) the importance of a business plan, resources. Wednesday, May 16 – Hypergrow! Your Business 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. UTSA Downtown, 501 W. Durango, Room 2.316 Fee: $70 Hypergrow is a business-development system based around a book called HYPERGROW YOUR BUSINESS: Double, triple, or quadruple any business by harnessing the natural laws of growth. The system also has a consulting workbook that helps you put the growth concepts to work in your business. Various aspects of marketing are also covered. Thursday, May 17 – Understanding Your Business Taxes 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. UTSA Downtown, 501 W. Durango, Room 2.316 Fee: $30 This program is designed to help small businesses understand their tax responsibilities with clear, accurate information about small business tax filing requirements. Topics include: types of organizations, record keeping/bookkeeping systems, business income tax, business deductions, and federal tax forms and filing dates Friday, May 18 – Basics of Importing/Exporting 9 a.m. to noon, UTSA Downtown, 501 W. Durango, Room 3.326 Fee: Free (Please pre-register) “Basics of Importing/Exporting” is a first step for companies interested in importing and exporting. This basic workshop provides an overview of the essential elements necessary to enter international markets. Topics include: International Trade, why you want to do it, assessing your company’s capabilities, identifying global opportunities, market entry strategies, logistics overview, getting paid, and additional resources. Friday, May 18 – Business Plan Basics 1 to 4 p.m., UTSA Downtown, 501 W. Durango, Room 2.316 Fee: $30 This course is designed for those planning to start a new business and for business owners who have never written a business plan. This session covers researching and analyzing the target market, developing financial projections and the loan process. Thursday, May 24 - Building Your Net Worth State-licensed Regional Vice President Sunita Trevino and divisional managers Dominique Acosta and Evans Stacker will teach industry secrets of wealth building and wealth retention for small business owners. Learn about benefits available to employers to help with tax breaks plus hire and retain a more qualified skilled labor. Fundamentals of accessing the stock market by saving 75 cents a day will also be covered.
