Heights Freshman Luke Maloy hits the game winning RBI in the 11th inning to beat Brackenridge in a best of three series. Heights moves on to face Lake Travis in the next round of playoffs. Photo by Mary Candee The Alamo Heights Mules baseball team captured the bi-district title Saturday with a dramatic extra-inning 5-4 victory over a feisty Brackenridge Eagles squad. Freshman outfielder Luke Maloy brought home the winning tally with a single in the bottom of the 11th inning, scoring T.P. Loftus, who was pinch-running for catcher Mundo Sanchez. The victory followed wins by each team in the first two contests of the best-of-three series. Opening the series at the Mule Yard, the Mules took game one, 3-0, behind a solid pitching performance by Randol Tellkamp. Game two saw the Mules nursing a 2-0 lead as the Eagles came up in the bottom of the seventh at the SAISD field. The Eagles loaded the bases with two outs and won the game on a bases-clearing, walk-off double by Marty Tinejero, setting up the winner-take-all third game last Saturday. The teams see-sawed through the contest, ending 10 innings knotted at four apiece, highlighted by a solo shot home run by Adam Bridgeman in the bottom of the 10th inning that kept the Mules alive. Two innings later Maloy ended it, propelling Heights to the next round of post-season play starting Thursday, May 10, at the Mule Yard versus Lake Travis. Game two follows on Friday at Lake Travis; with game three (if necessary) back at Alamo Heights Saturday.
