BHS Choir Spring Show Concert focused on ‘fun’ This year’s Boerne High School Choir Spring Show will be held at 7 p.m. today. in the Leisman Auditorium located at Boerne High School. The program is presented free of charge and everyone is invited, so come out and enjoy an evening’s entertainment performed by the BHS Chorale, Women’s Chorus, Chamber Singers and Madrigal Singers. The theme of this year’s Spring Show is – “Fun, Fun, Fun” a 1964 pop hit by the Beach Boys. The show includes many favorites of the past including “It’s My Party,” “Please Mr. Postman,” “Do Wah Diddy Diddy,” “Dancing in the Street” and “Twist and Shout” to name a few. More current musical favorites include “My Heart Will Go On” from the movie “Titanic” and “Together We Are One,” last year’s “American Idol” hit sung by the finalists. There will also be several solos and small ensembles performed by choir members. The show promises an evening of fun and nostalgia showcasing the Boerne High School singers. Choir to sing Davis’ swan song at BHS Choral Director Steve Davis, has announced his retirement. Davis has taught choral music for 29 years. Choirs under his direction have been invited to perform at the Texas Music Educators State Convention, the Wisconsin Music Educators State Convention and the Adjudicators National Conference in Washington, D.C. This year the Boerne High School Chorale was invited to perform at the World Projects Choral Festival in New York City held at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. During his 10 years at Boerne High School, Davis’ talent, vision and dedication has done an extraordinary job with choir students by creating a pattern of excellence which has allowed them to receive numerous UIL Concert and Sightreading Sweepstakes Awards, superior First Division ratings at the Region and State UIL Solo and Ensemble competitions, and most-outstanding choir awards at Choral Festivals throughout Texas and other states. Art in the Park at Cibolo Nature Center Cibolo Arts Council (CAC) and the Cibolo Nature Center (CNC) sponsor Art in the Park, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, for expressing creativity inspired by nature. School-aged children and adults will love working together on art activities such a flower pot painting, making rainsticks, “flower pounding” and much more. Professional and student artists will demonstrate their talents. Entertainment will include music, theater, dance, martial arts and a puppet show. Children and adults create and participate together. The organizers request that parents not drop off unattended children. Admission: Donations will be accepted at the gate. The Cibolo Arts Council is the umbrella organization for all the arts in Kendall County. The CAC mission is to develop and sustain an environment that supports and promotes awareness, appreciation, education and access to the visual and performing arts in the Kendall County area. The flagship event is the Boerne Festival of Art & Music held the third weekend in October. The Cibolo Nature Center is located on 100 acres of greenspace in Boerne. The CNC mission is conservation of the Texas Hill Country through education and land stewardship. The Cibolo Nature Center is located behind Boerne City Park off Highway 46, west of the Kendall County Fairgrounds. Monier named a Coca-Cola Scholar  Elizabeth Monier A student at Keystone School in San Antonio, Elizabeth Monier of Boerne has been named a regional recipient of a $10,000 scholarship from The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. She is one of a handful of San Antonio area high school seniors, and one of just 250 high school seniors selected nationwide, selected for scholarships based on their academic excellence and school and community leadership. Scholarships are sponsored by the local Coca-Cola Bottler and The Coca-Cola Co. Nationwide, 50 students earned national four-year college scholarships of $20,000 and 200 students earned regional four-year college scholarships of $10,000. The scholars learned their designation after their final interviews with the scholarship selection committee which took place in April at the Scholars Weekend in Atlanta. Along with their interview, the scholars participated in a range of activities including visits to Atlanta landmarks and a community service project. Additionally, the 2007 Class of Coca-Cola Scholars was recognized at a banquet hosted by Coca-Cola, educators, local dignitaries and friends of the Scholars Foundation. Ellis ‘Outstanding Partner’ Northside ISD saluted hundreds of school, business and community volunteers at the 2007 Partnership Awards Reception held May 8 in conjunction with ArtFest at the Paul Taylor Field House. In addition, Northside’s “Outstanding Partnerships” were honored individually. The “Outstanding Partners” were selected by a group of judges. All winners had previously been named a “Campus Partner of the Year” at an NISD school. “Northside depends on literally thousands of volunteers who help Northside keep education paramount,” NISD Partnerships Director Bonnie Ellison said. Winners included Dorothy Ellis, president of the Clark High School Athletic Boosters, as High School Coordinator of the Year. BISD kicks off summer reading with book sale Boerne ISD’s reading department in partnership with Scholastic Book Fair’s Warehouse Sale sponsors the third annual Kick Off for Summer Reading Event today noon to 5 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Fabra Elementary multi-purpose room, across the parking lot from the Boerne ISD Administration Building, 123 John’s Road, John’s Road exit from Interstate 10. All parents and BISD staff are encouraged to come and check out the great bargains. Many new and classic paperbacks and hardbacks will be available at half price to encourage Boerne ISD students to read over the summer. While the focus will be on K-8, there will be a limited supply of high school and adult books available as well. Proceeds benefit K-8 reading programs in the elementary and middle schools.
