The credit union is giving away five $5,000 cash prizes to five winners who will each have the opportunity to select a local school of their choice to receive a matching $5,000 donation from SSFCU. New members who join the credit union and open a new checking account between now and the end of the year will automatically be entered to win one of the cash prizes. “What better way is there to do a promotion than helping to benefit our members and local schools financially,” said John Worthington, senior vice president for SSFCU. “With the increase of so many everyday necessities like gas and electricity, members who win can ease some of their financial burdens by paying off bills, and schools will have some additional monetary resources for their students – it’s a win-win situation.” The credit union conceived the campaign around its “people helping people” philosophy. SSFCU has a long history of supporting educational and financial literacy programs, including free, open to the public monthly financial workshops for all ages and in-classroom financial seminars at area schools. Additionally, the credit union operates two student-run service centers at Business Careers High School and Clark High School. In 2006, SSFCU won the Texas Credit Union League Focus Award for its exemplary youth and adult financial education programs.
