(Sam Roberts Photography) By Kimberly Dean Contributing Writer Smithson Valley and our community have more reasons to shine with pride. Lady Ranger Dominique “Domino” Salazar signed with Tarleton State University on May 24. Salazar was awarded an athletic scholarship following a stellar season on the softball field. “That is where I really wanted to go,” Salazar said. “They have a really good softball program.” This is not the first time that Tarleton State has looked to the Rangers for recruiting. Salazar will be joining SVHS graduate Brooke LaRue when she makes her new academic home in Stephenville. LaRue was awarded the TexAnn Leadership Award for her role on the team this year. Salazar’s invitation to join the team is a grand compliment. The Texans and TexAnns of Tarleton are held to a high standard of performance in athletics and academics. Five TexAnn softball players were awarded Lone Star Conference honors last week. This honor requires achieving sophomore status and maintaining a minimum 3.2 grade point average. Salazar plans to major in education. “They have a really great education program also,” Salazar explained. With her incredible work ethic and poise on the field, Salazar is bound to be a star at Tarleton as she has been for this community.
