Cardinals coach Angela Lawson said the five will be on hand in August when fall semester classes begin and all will be eligible to play in the 2007-2008 season.

The five come to a UIW program which had a winning record last season, earned a berth in the Heartland Conference post-season champion- ship tournament, and made it to the semi-finals.

Coach Lawson said the two freshmen are Megan Holden, a 6-0 post player from Clear Lake High School in the Houston area, and 5-6 guard Mireina Villarreal who is a product of Alice High School in South Texas.

Holden was third team Greater Houston and was all-district. She also was a regional meet qualifier in the shot put.

The three transfer players are Ashley Leffingwell, Keisha Greenwood and Maggy Deweber.

Leffingwell is a 5-9 guard who comes from Texas State where she averaged eight points and shot 83 per cent at the free throw line. She is a product of Allen High School in the Dallas area.

Greenwood is transferring from Blinn Junior College. She is a 5-9 forward from Corpus Christi’s West Oso High School where she was All-South Texas.

Deweber is a 5-6 guard who is coming to UIW from Texas Woman’s University where she averaged 8.8 points and was recognized for her three-point shooting abilities.

At Alvord High School, she was all-state and played in the TABC all-star game.
