By Edmond Ortiz Staff Writer On June 26 Schertz City Council discussed authorizing service pacts with three engineering firms to handle street and drainage projects approved under the 2006 bond issue. Don McCrary and Associates is partnering with the Edge Engineering Design Group to handle the reconstruction of Doerr Lane and Schertz Parkway, and resurfacing Dimrock Street and Woodland Oaks Drive.
Ford Engineering will take of care of the Wiederstein Road/Chelsea Drive intersection, drainage improvements in Village Unit I and II, drainage along West Dietz Creek upstream to city limits, and drainage at Clyde Ford and Gettysburg Road. On July 3 the council awarded a bid to ASC Paving to install 2,000 more feet of piping to a 12-inch water line extension along Interstate 35. Council also awarded a $1.6 million bid to Winco Construction fore the reconstruction and realignment of Schwab Road. This is part of the larger project to develop a Lacks furniture distribution and retail center near Schwab and I-35. In action July 10 council reviewed designs for the new library and recreation center project that will be developed from the 2006 bond issue. Kell Munoz Architects is spearheading the design of the facility. Council will give final approval on designs later before the city goes out for construction bids. Council also discussed Comal County’s proposed creation of a seventh Emergency Services District. If put on the November ballot and approved by voters, the new ESD may include 75 homeowners in the so-called “no man’s land” between New Braunfels and Garden Ridge. |
