By Cori Smelker Contributing Writer Picture this: After weeks of searching you’ve found the perfect house for your family, something you all want to live in and grow into; and now the only thing left to do is sell your existing home. You make sure the current home is up to par, place it on the market and it just sits there and you have no clue why? Your realtor tells you the house is in good shape, and it shows well, so what’s the problem? This is where Marylou Pritchard of Making Arrangements steps in! Making Arrangements is more than just ‘staging’ a house for when you want to sell, but also for working with rooms that you love, but just don’t feel right. How often do you walk into your house and look at the dining room, or the living room and realize that things are a little off, but you can’t put your finger on it. Hiring an interior decorator is quite often out of the question, if not the budget, so what do you do? Making Arrangements is the answer to that problem. Pritchard, a transplant from New England and a former teacher, founded Making Arrangements because of her passion to see homes look and feel the best they can be. “I am more affordable than people realize,” she explains, “Plus I try to work with my client’s existing furnishings as not too many people can just go out and buy a whole roomful of new furniture.” Drawing on her professional credentials and her own good eye, Marylou is able to transform a room or a house with ease. Pritchard takes her business seriously and has trained with the nation’s #1 redecorating trainer, Barbara Jennings of decorate-redecorate.com, in California. She has also trained with one of Texas’ largest furniture companies in furniture styles and room arrangements. According to Pritchard, “Staging a home to sell it, and making a house a home are two very different prospects, and need to be approached differently. For the client who needs a fresh touch on a house they love I tell them we are not replacing furniture, but ‘re-placing’ it. I work hand-in-hand with my clients throughout the redesign process with the goal of creating a functional and beautiful room. Together we ‘shop the home’ and pull together existing treasures that work in creating a space that fits their lifestyle, budget, and personal style.” What about those who need to sell a home? Pritchard understands the need to make the most impact with the least amount of money. “You only have one opportunity to make a good impression.” She becomes the objective observer, walking through the home, garage, and property, and suggesting changes to present the home in the most flattering way to get the most money for the property and broaden the appeal to a wider range of buyers. Other professional services provided by Pritchard include full decorator services, new home set up/ home transitioning, organizing/ de-cluttering, arranging accessories, creation of custom window treatments and even shopping services. “At the end of the day I want people to love the home they’re in, and to feel comfortable with the furnishings they have,” Pritchard says. “A home is an extension of a person’s personality and I want everyone to express themselves.” Making Arrangements is located in Fair Oaks Ranch, and Marylou services the Boerne/San Antonio area.
