The chamber has encouraged you for years to shop locally and use our chamber members whenever you can. Doing your shopping locally to generate sales tax dollars for our community is very important and benefits all citizens. Going out of town or out of the county for that matter to purchase items like school clothing and supplies, for example, takes sales tax dollars out of city and county that could be used for infrastructure improvements that we can all enjoy.

With gasoline prices skyrocketing, not only can you save gas, you can feel good about helping improve our local economy by spending your hard-earned dollars with local merchants, who hire local people to work in their establishments, which helps the economy as a whole in our community.

There are so many benefits of shopping local instead of taking your business to other communities where it goes to the improvement of their communities that their citizens enjoy. Local merchants depend on us to help keep them in business and these same merchants give back so much to our community through their kind donations to many non-profit organizations that depend on them for fundraising efforts. These same local merchants are our neighbors and fellow citizens who depend on us to keep their doors open.

Next time you are ready to shop for products or services, think about how you can help the community where you live by shopping locally. Many times you can save money and get the same or greater quality products and services to be found. Years ago there might have been a need to venture out of Kendall County for some items, but no longer. Virtually everything you might need or want can be found right at your own back door.

For references for products and services you might be in need of, call the chamber. We’d be glad to direct you and give you a list of vendors that can take care of your needs. Or, go online to our website at www.boerne.org and check out our member directory. You can locate businesses either alphabetically or by category depending on what you are looking for. We refer our members 24 hours a day, seven days a week on our Web site.

So remember, when you get ready to do your school shopping or just need to purchase a gift, you are probably just minutes away.
