Descendents of pioneers who settled, ranched, farmed and lived in the Guadalupe River/ Honey Creek region of Comal and Kendall Counties are invited to share stories and artifacts from the past. Those coming to share stories will be admitted into the park for free.If you a have a Texas State Parks pass or were born before Sept. 1, 1930, admission to the park is also free. Cibolo Songs and Stories features the Lost Mule Band, five homegrown musicians who have performed together for over 25 years, playing at the Cibolo Nature Center, located on Highway 46 East near the Kendall County Fairgrounds in Boerne. Tuesday, July 31 As the sun slips away, local residents and visitors from surrounding communities start making their way to Boerne's Main Plaza, bringing along their blankets, lawn chairs and ice chests. They are staking out their favorite spot before the Abendkonzerte begins at 7:30 p.m. Abendkonzerte features the Boerne Village Band, a German band that has been playing true old-country music for 141 consecutive years. In fact, it's the oldest German band in the country, and the oldest in the world outside of Germany. The concerts are free, everyone is welcome, and food and beverages are usually available from various civic and youth organizations raising money for their projects. Tuesday, Aug. 7 Neighborhoods throughout Boerne and Kendall County are being invited to join thousands of communities nationwide fo “National Night Out,” a crime- and drug-prevention event. In more than 10,000 communities around the country, more than 34 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime.” Participants are asked to send a message to criminals by letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. From 6 to 8 p.m., residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. THURSDAY, AUG. 9 The next mixer for the Leon Springs Business Association is an 11:30 a.m. luncheon at the Dominion Country Club. A set menu will be offered.
