Soup du Jour, a musical comedy, finishes its run this weekend at the Boerne Community Theatre, 907 E. Blanco.  Everyone wants Bailey’s Restaurant’s famous soup recipe, but Stewart Bailey’s father has taken it to the grave.  It’s up to Katharine Hawks, ace reporter, to go undercover and solve the mystery. Performance dates are today, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets $13 to 15. Tuesday, Aug. 7

All 4-H’ers in Kendall County are invited to attend the 2007 4-H Awards Program at 7 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 315 E. Rosewood in Boerne. Cheryl Newberry, District 10 Extension program specialist, will speak on “What is a Project.” She will also be available for questions about 4-H. Neighborhoods throughout Bexar and Kendall County are being invited to join thousands of communities nationwide for the annual “National Night Out,” a crime- and drug-prevention event. In more than 10,000 communities around the country, more than 34 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime.” Participants are asked to send a message to criminals by letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. From 6 to 8 p.m., residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.

The Leon Springs Business Association mixer is an 11:30 a.m. luncheon at the Dominion Country Club. A set menu will be offered. The guest speaker is KENS-5TV weatherperson Siobahn Anders.

SATURDAY, AUG. 11

Boerne Market Days features dozens of vendors from all over Texas, arts, crafts, antiques, collectibles, unusual items, and great food – all assembled on Boerne’s Main Plaza. For information call (830) 249-5530 or (210) 844-8193.

On Second Saturdays, the galleries of Boerne host joint openings from 5 to 8 p.m. Come out and enjoy a glass of wine and the latest offerings on the Boerne Art Scene. Catch the trolley at one of the galleries or at Holiday Inn Express or Ye Kendall Inn.  Participating Galleries include Arroyo Gallery, Bella Creo, Bill Zaner’s Art Hause, Carriage House Gallery of Artists, Garden Path Gallery, Highland House, Sandra Canavan Fine Art Gallery and Bear Moon Bakery.

Cibolo Songs and Stories features Peacefield, an alternative folk-rock-country band described as “a blend of raw Americana with a conscience” and “Appalachian-tinged bluegrass spontaniety blended with the polished country flow of Nashville.” The band performs at 7:30 p.m. at the Cibolo Nature Center, on City Park Road off of Highway 46 East in Boerne. Saturday, Aug. 25

The Back to School Bash, which will give away school supplies to families who cannot afford the cost, will be held at Leon Springs Baptist Church from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A barbecue and live music will be featured as well as a water slide and games for the children.
