Richard W. Dosher Triple H, a nonprofit agency. provides nationally accredited therapeutic, educational, competitive and recreational horseback riding or driving programs for children and adults with disabilities in a safe Hill Country environment. As a premier equitherapy center, Triple H has seen a tremendous growth in their program participation; from assisting 42 clients in 2000 to 146 in 2006. This growth pattern brought new beginnings for Triple H Equitherapy Center in the form of a new executive director. Kathy Harbaugh, founder, equitherapy specialist and executive director for many years, has now stepped down from the latter position to remain as lead instructor and trainer. Richard W. Dosher has been hired as the new executive director. He has been a consultant to the medical field regarding Medicare/Medicaid policies and procedures and he has been a media consultant for publishing houses and public relations companies. His former clients included Bloom Agency, Fidelity Investments, Harper & Row, Simon & Schuster, Random House and several others. Dosher moved to Pipe Creek in April 2006, originally from Houston, looking for a lifestyle that would include involvement with nature and Triple H seemed to be a perfect fit. After his first day, Dosher commented, “My first overwhelming experience at Triple H was as I watched Kathy Harbaugh (who penned the term “equitherapy” and has developed programs now used by other riding programs throughout the industry) and Barbara Fuller, staff psychotherapist, work with a very young rider. Each of them eloquently explained to me what was happening during the one hour equitherapy class, but the pure joy and confidence exuding from the young rider’s eyes is what made me realize that I was working in a special and unique place.” Dosher’s plans for Triple H include expanding the “Way of Equu,” an equine facilitated mental health program, for youth and adults, including war veterans, that promotes emotional growth and psychological well being and the “Wheels of Freedom,” a carriage and cart driving program for youth and adults with disabilities. Other programs at Triple H include “Hooves, Hearts & Heroes” a therapeutic riding program provided for students from Boerne and Bandera ISD Special Education Departments and “From Fear to Responsibility” an equine assisted mental health program for “at-risk” youth from Meadowlands, a Roy Maas Youth Alternative Center in Boerne. Clients also participate in the “Riding to Independence” program upon referral from a personal physician, therapist or clinic. The Triple H fall programs will begin on Sept. 10 and continue throughout the year in four sessions.
