Six students from TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas took home a total of 23 Top 10 individual awards from the National Junior Classical League convention, held July 24-29 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Representing TMI were Lucas Brady, Patrick Cook, Ashley Kaupert, David Maynor, Annie Parker and Craig Thomas, who competed in 41 different academic as well as graphic and creative arts contests. Among other distinctions earned by the TMI team, Parker was awarded first place in Impromptu Art, Grade 10; Kaupert won second in Advanced Open Certamen (a question-and-answer contest) and third place in both Greek Derivatives IV and Latin Oratory IV; Cook received third place in Classical Art IV; and David Maynor won thirds in Academic Heptathlon III and Latin Derivatives III.

"We are very proud of our TMI Latin students,” said Chaddie Kruger, Latin teacher and head of the school’s Foreign Languages Department. “It is a joy to teach students who have such drive, self-discipline and eagerness in learning."

More than 1,300 students from all over the United States and Canada attended the annual event, at which young classics students hear speakers, participate in workshops and compete in academic challenges related to the languages, history and culture of the ancient world.
