The fifth case of rabies in Kendall County this year was documented this past week after a Comfort woman’s dog fought and killed a raccoon. The remains tested positive for rabies at the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District.

Although the dog was current on its rabies immunizations, following health guidelines it received a booster shot and is under quarantine for 45 days.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens to stay away from any wild ahimal exhibiting unusual behavior, which could include daylight activity or showing no fear of humans.

Pets are required by law to be vaccinated against rabies, a viral disease almost always fatal to unvaccinated animals and easily spread from animal to animal. To report suspicions or concerns about an animal, call the KCSO at (830) 249-9721.
