Marion man appointed to state board AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry appointed five Texans to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy – including a Marion resident – and named one of the group as its presiding officer. John Steinberg of Marion is being reappointed to the board. He is director of safety and security at Little Caesar of San Antonio. He is chairman of the South Texas Safety Council and former chairman of the Greater San Antonio Society for Industrial Security. He volunteers as a mediator and is a board member of the Bexar County Dispute Resolution Center. His term will expire Jan. 31, 2013. Another San Antonio area resident, David King, a partner of Ernst & Young, L.L.P., was also named to the board. Perry appointed Coalter Baker of Austin as presiding officer. The board regulates public accountants and administers the certified public accountant exam in Texas. SCUC forming history project The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City School District is seeking vintage photographs, memorabilia and artifacts that relate to the district’s history; and accomplishments of its students, and educators and community leaders. The public is also invited to make suggestions or provide information to benefit the history project. Donations boost military support group The non-profit organization Operation Homefront of Texas recently received donations that further increase the group’s efforts to support military families in various ways. The Schertz Wal-Mart Superstore donated $1,000 to help Operation Homefront provide emergency services. The Schertz-Cibolo Optimist Club donated $500 to support OH’s Operation Backpack. Additionally, club members spent an August day sorting and packing backpacks for children of military families across Texas. Wagner High site of annual College Fair The 21st annual Judson ISD College Fair is slated for 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at Wagner High School, 3000 Foster Road. The fair is designed to help families begin planning for college. Ninth- through 12th-grade students — and their parents — can visit with representatives from dozens of state and national colleges and universities. “College representatives will provide educational information about their campuses and share helpful tools to plan for college,” said Blanca Muniz, Wagner High School college counselor.
