TMI students receive college board’s highest national Hispanic recognition honors

Ashley Kaupert, Gabriel Magraner and Cintia Roman, seniors at TMI-The Episcopal School of Texas, have been recognized by the College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program, as announced by Dr. James Freeman, headmaster. Each student was named as a National Hispanic Scholar.

Ashley Kaupert is a four-time gold medal winner in the National Latin Exam, a member of the National Honor Society where she serves as program chair and parliamentarian, columnist for the TMI Times, a member of the TMI varsity chorale ensemble and a four-year member of the TMI theater arts program. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Kaupert.

Gabriel Magraner is a member of the National Honor Society, Upper School Student Council president, founding editor of the TMI Times, senior class president and member of the TMI varsity chorale ensemble. He is the son of Drs. Gabriel Magraner and Gladys Rodriguez.

Cintia Roman is president of the National Honor Society and co-captain of the TMI varsity cheerleading squad. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Carlos Roman.

The National Hispanic Recognition Program, established in 1983, is a College Board program that provides national recognition of the exceptional academic achievements of Hispanic high school seniors and identifies them for postsecondary institutions.

Students enter the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) as high school juniors and by identifying themselves as Hispanic. This year, more than 196,000 PSAT/NMSQT takers nationwide identified themselves as Hispanic, and more than 4,000 of those students have been recognized as National Hispanic Scholars or Honorable Mention Finalists based upon their scores and their academic achievements.

The College Board is a not-for-profit membership association whose mission is to connect students to college success and opportunity. The association is composed of more than 5,200 schools, colleges, universities and other educational organizations.

Cibolo Creek Elementary teachers Ben Houck and Stacy Dixon sing "Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting" to students in preparation for the upcoming CCES PTO fundraiser on Oct. 13. Students will be able to sponsor their teachers as they karaoke their way in to history at the first annual CCES PTO Country Fair. The fair will have a 5K fun run, halfmile walk and a carnival to be enjoyed by children of all ages.
