Rory Fellows, a junior at TMI-The Episcopal School of Texas, has successfully completed the Norwich University Future Leader Camp (FLC) in Northfield, Vt. Held at the nation’s first senior military college, FLC is designed to develop the leadership skills of current high-school students by providing a challenging and meaningful camp experience. Participants receive training in physical fitness, climbing and rappelling, water survival, first aid, orienteering and leadership. Campers are then qualified to take part in an 8.5-mile hike to the top of Vermont’s second-highest peak, Camel’s Hump. During a three-night camping trip, they also test their wilderness survival skills in team and individual competitions. Each FLC participant has the opportunity to serve as a team leader during the program. Admission to this selective program is based on grade-point average, letters of recommendation and demonstrated involvement in leadership-driven organizations such as Junior ROTC, student government, athletics, scouting, church or volunteer organizations. Fellows, the son of Gabrielle and Matthew Fellows of Boerne, is a member of the Corps of Cadets (JROTC) at TMI. Last spring, he was recognized for leadership with the National Society of Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America Award, presented to students who distinguish themselves in patriotic service. |
