I’m tired of all these Boerne outsiders’ commentary! PDF Print E-mail

I am so tired of hearing about city of Boerne issues from people who are not citizens of Boerne. Talk is cheap in this case since they do not contribute to the city of Boerne in the form of taxes. They harp about important issues concerning the citizens of Boerne when, in fact, they “don’t have a dog in the hunt.”

It is easy to be critical when it doesn’t cost you any money, but these are citizens’ tax dollars that are involved in these issues. What gives these people a right to stick their noses in the city of Boerne’s business?

“Boerne Together” appears to be made up, for the most part, of these non-taxpaying residents as indicated by the letters to the editor published in this publication. It is hard to tell since the membership has never been made public.

Now this “Together” bunch carefully avoids the words “no growth,” but their actions clearly support a “no growth” policy. They stood behind the master plan, which their council candidates included as a plank in their platforms in the last elections. They now vote “no” on zoning issues that are appropriate under the master plan! They use words like “planning,” “considered,” “quality,” “balance” and “evolution.” These are words you don’t have to be concerned with if you do nothing. The city of Boerne has serious issues to deal with, and they all include “growth.” “Growth” is here now, and to bury your head in the sand hoping that “growth” will somehow go away is blind and irresponsible and not representing the taxpaying citizens of Boerne!

As members of the Quality of Life Bond Committee, we all considered what infrastructure the city needed to accommodate projected “growth” in the future. Each item was considered carefully. They all passed with overwhelming support from the taxpaying citizens of Boerne. Why? Because the citizens recognized the need to be prepared for “growth.”

It is apparent that some City Council members have an agenda that does not represent the majority of the city of Boerne taxpayers. They represent non-citizens who have their own personal agendas. In doing so, they are building an image of a city that is “not business friendly.” That is not right.

We need and have an organization to provide balance in Boerne. It is called “Boerne Forward.” Their goal is to provide balance and point out that there is a majority position for reasonable growth with well-thought-out planning for the future of our city.

“It’s all about the money to them” is what the “Together” outsiders say. Absolutely not! It is about being prepared for the challenges that “growth” has brought with it. That means making tough decisions that are in the interest of all the city taxpayers and utility ratepayers, not some outsider group agenda with tunnel vision.

It is time for “Together” to realize that “growth” is not a dirty word!
