Chambers of commerce all across Texas were tooting their horn last week in honor of their volunteers, communities and themselves for the work they do in “Building Business and Leading Communities.” Governor Rick Perry Texas signed a proclamation last week proclaiming Oct. 15-19 as Texas Chamber of Commerce Week. The same was being done statewide in many communities by mayors and city councils celebrating the successes of their local chambers of commerce. As a member of the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives (TCCE), which is the oldest organization in the country for training and educating chamber professionals and recently celebrated its 100th birthday, our chamber celebrated with the other 678 chambers of commerce in Texas that work diligently to create jobs, implement beautification programs, improve education, campaign for improved streets and highways, and stimulate industrial, commercial and agricultural growth. Boerne Mayor Dan Heckler made a proclamation that was read and presented to our entire board of directors on Oct. 16 and again at the Boerne Methodist Healthcare Business-After-Hours on Oct. 18. Our chamber has been the voice of the business community for over 80 years. The mission of not only our chamber, but chambers of commerce worldwide, is to build better communities and be the business leader for our communities. Diane Probst, chair-elect of the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives, said, “Together, we work to build a better Texas for everyone. We improve your quality of life, we work to meet the needs of local business through expansion and creation of new jobs, keeping abreast of legislative issues and impacting the economy.” With more than 1,020 members in our local chamber of commerce, we now are the fourth-largest chamber of commerce in the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). That is a major accomplishment and one we have worked hard to achieve. Our vibrant business community is the reason we exist. Your chamber of commerce works daily for you and your community and businesses area-wide. Not a part of the chamber organization? Join today with over a thousand other businesses representing over 13,000 employees who together have a vision “to develop leadership and partnerships to promote prosperity and enhance the quality of life” for all citizens in Boerne.
