Open container

Oct. 13, 3:55 a.m., 200 block of East Olmos: A patrol officer noticed a car traveling eastbound and saw the passenger throw a cigarette out the window. The officer stopped the car due to its loud muffler. When asked for his driver’s license and insurance, the driver didn’t have either and produced his Mexico ID card instead. The officer then noticed two open beer cans on the passenger-side floorboard and the passenger was asked if she knew it was illegal to have open alcohol containers in the car. She said she did and both cans, still cold to the touch and with lipstick marks on them, were hers. The driver received citations for no license or insurance and a muffler violation, and was informed the car was being impounded due to him not having the registration for the car. The passenger received citations for littering and having open containers.
